Inspiration | Dubai Bloggers: Clare Geeves!
It’s always great to come across Fashion bloggers in the UAE. Clare Geeves, presenter for Splash TV and a stylist has gained a great following in the blogging world. I recently had the pleasure of having a chat with her, read all about it!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Clare Geeves AKA Clare And The City is an Anti Socialite and wine connoisseur with a super model physique stuck in an average girls body. This is a chronicle of her mundane life in pictures (self- deprecating fashion adventures assumed). If you need to find me, I’ll be dumpster diving for vintage clothes.
What inspired you to start up your blog?
Instant gratification, free wine and less censorship
What’s your ‘to-go’ outfit?
I’m a sucker for second hand clothes and vintage (not the haute couture I mean the 20 cent you find at a thrift store) so I love throwing on an oversized 80’s tee or jumper with huge shoulder pads and leggings, I know it’s not tres Vogue but it’s comfortable and who doesn’t love a good shoulder pad?
Favorite fashion magazine?
Company – It’s an English based magazine, it is a visual feast for the high street lover! And the design behind it is like a pintrest board – All you want to do is “pin” everything!
What are some of your current fashion obsessions?
Distressed cropped Boy Friend Jeans, The new Kenzo watches (totes colourful and affordable) Kate Spades new beach handbag collection (full of sayings like sink or swim), Aldo accessories, so cheap and cheerful but you can really find some statement items (check out my So 2014 handbag) Manolo Blahnik neon tipped pointy heels, Faux leather black backpacks and of course statement slogan shirts and statement hair!
Who is your style icon?
My style icons change on a daily bases but I love Lena Denhum, Zooey, The characters from Reality Bites, The breakfast club… Pretty much any one that can rock 80’s shoulder pads and 90’s grunge fashion.
What is the one thing your followers would be surprised to hear?
I think high heels are the devil…. As soon as I am done with a shoot or finish a tv show… I am done with the heels they come straight off and a pair of flip flops (I always carry a pair with me) go straight on.
Name your top 3 favorite brands
Kenzo, Primark and The Kooples (an alternative luxe label)
Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn?
There is no question… Audry Hepburn, she had the type of class and beauty that is eternal and radiated from her every pore, Marilyn had a fragile – almost broken quality to her.
What do you do when you’re not busy blogging or working?
Not working… What is that? Apart from blogging I am also a stylist, writer, contributor to magazines, work in Luxe PR and help out my BF with his catering company. So if there is a rare day that I find myself not working I am usually at Dragon Mart finding bargains, or doing photo shoots with my photographer friends or binge drinking wine with my cats…
What advice can you give to new bloggers?
Be yourself and don’t judge yourself to harshly if it takes a while to start getting a following. There are solo many bloggers today who I look at their blogs and they just copy and paste a press release… That is not a blog, that’s just you being a lazy $hit who want’s free things!
Blogging is about not having to censor yourself, or to be someone you are not, look at some of the worlds most famous bloggers or Vbloggers, they all have a little something something about them…
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
Hopefully part of “The Real Housewives of Dubai” where cat fights will 100% happen on every episode!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received ?
You have to give head to get ahead… This saying is so true – You have to put yourself out there and sometimes do things you don’t want to do to succeed. The most successful people I know are the hungriest.
