Easy Habits That Actually Made Me Happier

It brings me so much joy to be writing this post right now—because honestly, it took me a while to get here. As someone who’s always been a chronic overthinker and a bit of an anxious, restless soul, there were days when I just couldn’t take care of myself the way I wanted to. I’d fall into this weird mental fog or trance of unease that didn’t even have a real trigger. It was just… there.

But slowly—and I mean slowly—I’ve started building small habits into my day that have genuinely helped lift that fog. They’re nothing revolutionary, but they’ve made a world of difference. And if you’re in that place I once was, I hope these help you too.

1. I’m back to my 10k steps.
Yes, I know it’s trending on TikTok right now, but I’ve quietly been back on this train for a while—and let me tell you, it works. Some days I absolutely don’t feel like it, but when I skip it, I feel off. So whether it’s pacing around the house or heading outside for a walk and fresh air (brownie points for that), I make sure to get those steps in. It takes about 1.5 hours in total, so I try to knock it out in the morning. Anything extra throughout the day is just a bonus!

2. Drinking enough water.
I know, I know—everyone says this. But hear me out: it really changes your mood. The moment I feel a snappy attitude creeping in, I pause, chug a tall glass of water, and reset. You’d be surprised how much better you deal with things when you’re hydrated.

3. Breath work.
I used to do this a lot in my twenties and somehow fell out of the habit, but I’ve recently gotten back into it and it’s been so grounding. There’s a free app called Oak that offers simple breathing and meditation exercises. It’s such a gentle way to calm your nervous system and just be present, especially when your thoughts are racing.

4. Tending to my spiritual self.
For me, this means making time to pray and just talk to God. I’ve come to realize prayer isn’t something I “have to” do—it’s something I get to do. It centers me, especially on the hard days. Everyone’s life is difficult in its own way, no matter how perfect things look online. We all have our battles—and taking time to connect spiritually has helped me carry mine with a bit more grace.

5. Prioritizing what truly matters.
For me, it’s my family. For you, it might be your career, your health, your friendships—whatever it is, give it the space and time it deserves. When you focus on what really fills your heart, the rest somehow starts to feel a little lighter.

So if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, lost, or stuck in a funk, I hope you take this post as a warm little nudge from a friend who’s been there. Start small. Drink the water. Take the walk. Say the prayer. Breathe.

Life doesn’t change overnight—but these little habits? They add up. Slowly, quietly, beautifully.

You’ve got this. And if no one’s told you lately—you’re doing better than you think. 💛

With love,
Always rooting for you.
